2-N-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one is a low toxicity biocide specifically developed for the complete microbiological protection of water based and solvent based products against bacterial and fungal spoilage in the wet state. 2-N-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one is a glycol based liquid.

Biocidal Properties

2-N-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one is effective against mildew, bacteria and fungi

Applications

2-N-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one  is recommended for a wide range of applications including adhesives, polymer emulsions, decorative wood stains, sealants, pulp, fountain solutions, MWF and paint where protection against fungi and bacteria is required in the wet state.

2-N-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one  is found to be useful as a mildewcide to prevent mildew damage of stored leather, especially during processing. It can be added during any time period of leather processing. It is preferred to be introduced in the early stage to ensure a good dispersion of the solution. The recommended concentration of 2-N-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one  is 0.1~0.5%.

2-N-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one  is also found to be useful fungicide and algaecide in paint film, especially in formulation of environmental latex. The recommended concentration is 0.1~0.3%.

Handling

Where direct handling is necessitated, personnel should always wear protective clothing. This will include a rubber apron, suitable impervious full-length gloves and footwear. Protective chemical splash goggles should also be worn.

Ecotoxicity

2-N-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one  is biodegradable when diluted below the minimum inhibitory concentration and does not bio-accumulate.

First Aid

Should be 2-N-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one  mishandled the following procedures are recommended:

Inhalation Move the exposed person to fresh air at once. Seek prompt medical attention.
Ingestion Rinse mouth thoroughly with water. Seek medical attention.
Skin Contact Promptly wash contaminated area with plenty of water. Seek medical attention.
Eye Contact Promptly wash eyes with water. Seek medical attention.
